Case originated in 1996
Harrisburg, PA – United States Marshal Martin J. Pane announced today that the U.S. Marshals Service arrested Scott McComas, 49-years old, in Muskegon, Michigan, and 47-year old Victoria Ann McComas in Lakewood, California.
The couple was being sought by the Cumberland County District Attorney’s Office and the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office on bench warrants issued in Cumberland County on July 2, 2013, and on separate probation violation warrants. These warrants relate to felony convictions from 17 years ago.
On August 27, 1996, Victoria and Scott McComas pled guilty to charges of Fraud, Theft by Deception, and Conspiracy to Commit Theft by Deception. The charges stemmed from the couple working for Scott McComas’ father and step-mother, who owned their own business. The couple defrauded the business out of approximately $250,000.00. Both were sentenced to prison. After serving 11 months in custody, they were released and placed on county probation. They were each ordered to pay restitution and fines. Soon after being released from prison, Victoria and Scott McComas left Pennsylvania and fled to California. For several years, the couple eluded apprehension by law enforcement. Earlier this year, the case took a different direction when District Attorney David Freed sought the re-issuance of arrest warrants. In early July 2013, Cumberland County Judge Kevin A. Hess issued new arrest warrants for Victoria and Scott McComas, with full extradition to Pennsylvania.
At the request of the Cumberland County District Attorney’s Office, the U.S. Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force in the Middle District of Pennsylvania began investigating the whereabouts of these two fugitives.
During the evening of July 23, U.S. Marshals in the Central District of California acted on information provided by Harrisburg-based U.S. Marshals, and arrested Victoria McComas in the 4000 block of Hungerford Street in Lakewood, California. She is awaiting extradition to Cumberland County. She is being held at the Lakewood County Female Facility Regional Detention Center in Lakewood, California.
U.S. Marshals developed new information on the possible location of Scott McComas. An investigative lead was sent to U.S. Marshals in Grand Rapids Michigan.
During the morning hours of July 24, U.S. Marshals in the Western District of Michigan located and arrested Scott McComas at a local Starbucks Coffee shop in Muskegon, Michigan. He is being held at the Muskegon County Jail in Muskegon, Michigan, awaiting extradition to Cumberland County.
United States Marshal Martin J. Pane said, “I am glad that our agency could close the book on two fugitives who have shown disregard and disrespect for so many years. This case involved a collaborative effort between multiple agencies in multiple states. Those who thumb their noses at the judicial system should realize that law enforcement will not rest.”
Cumberland County District Attorney David Freed stated, “I am truly grateful for the assistance of the United States Marshals Service in apprehending Scott and Victoria McComas. These two convicted criminals have thumbed their noses for far too long. Their capture shows two important things. One, we in Cumberland County will pursue cases wherever they lead. And secondly, the U.S. Marshals always get their man or woman.”
U.S. Marshals were assisted by U.S. Marshals Service personnel from Los Angles California and Grand Rapids, Michigan, as well as by the Cumberland County District Attorney’s Office, the Muskegon County Sheriff’s Department, and the Lakewood County Sheriff’s Department.
